The one sentence, word for word

Cutvey Meter is a color meter and sun tracker for iPhone and iPad, made by Cutvey LLC.

What it reads

  • Color temperature in kelvin, on a scale from 1,800 to 12,000 K, and tint from green to magenta. From the camera's auto white balance (AWB) or from a gray card filling the frame, one tap apart.
  • The light level in lux or foot-candles, worked out from the exposure.
  • How settled each reading is: HIGH, MEDIUM or LOW, and DIFFICULT SOURCE when a RAW measurement and AWB disagree by more than 15 mired.
  • A RAW MEASUREMENT when you hold LOG on the back wide camera: color temperature and Duv from a RAW frame.
  • The gap between two lights: pin one with REF and the card shows both readings, the difference in kelvin and in mired, and the LEE gel that closes it, never more than two sheets. MATCH shows within 5 mired.
  • A live ND figure for your ISO, stop, shutter and frame rate, or it solves for the ISO, the stop or the shutter instead.
  • The sun's path over the live view, with sunrise, solar noon and sunset and their bearings, and golden hour (−4° to +6°) and blue hour (−8° to −4°) for today and up to two more dates.
  • A library of every logged reading with its frame. Compare any two in mired, share one with its picture.
  • A calibration for each lens, in mired and tint. Logged readings stay uncorrected.

What it does not do

  • It is a camera used as a meter, not a spectrometer. It does not measure color rendering (CRI, TLCI, TM-30) or show a spectrum.
  • It does not detect flicker, and it does not meter flash.
  • The lux figure is not an incident reading from a light cell.
  • Plus green and minus green advice is a rough hint only, and the app says so.
  • No subscription and no advertising. You need no account unless you unlock it with a Cutvey membership.
  • This website never asks where you are.
